One of my favorite private Slack channels is the one for my book club. It’s a great way to keep in touch with everyone and make sure we’re all up to date on what’s going on.

My company has an ‘after_hours’ channel where people strike conversations about basically anything except work. Discussing the news or sharing memes about whatever it is you want can be a really relaxing way to finish off your remote-work day, so I tune in a couple of times a week to compensate for the lack of social interaction when working remotely.

I love our company’s music channel. It’s a casual channel where we can share our favorite bands, artists, and musicians. Since our team is fully remote, we’re always looking for ways to connect with one another. Our “Lounge” private channel in Slack is one of my favorites. This is where we hold our water cooler conversations and share a variety of exciting ideas so we can relax and casually chat with one another amid a busy workday.
This way, we still get to improve our working relationships and get to know one another personally despite working remotely. By purchasing Slack’s pro account, we could unlock its Huddles feature, which helped us eventfully conduct a virtual team-building activity over Lounge.

Begin a Holiday Love Channel
I own no less than 12 artificial Christmas trees and several dozen tubs of decorations, so it should come as no surprise that #holiday-love is my favorite Slack channel. On this channel, members post pictures of holiday decorations, desserts, and celebrations, along with comments about holiday plans. The posts are festive and help to spread the holiday spirit in our remote office. Plus, I love seeing my coworker’s creativity and getting inspiration to freshen up my festivities. While the channel is most active at Christmas, coworkers can also use this space to celebrate occasions throughout the year.
