Cross-country Skiing Adventure

Cross-country skiing is a great way for Minneapolis and St. Paul locals to experience some winter fun! Cross-country skiing through the Twin Cities allows you to explore some of the stunning trails that run along lakes, parks, and woodlands. Cross-country skiing is an excellent activity for those who want to experience outdoor winter adventures without all of the crowds that many downhill ski resorts face. Not only is it great exercise, but it’s also a wonderful way to take in natural beauty without having to travel far from home. So bundle up, grab your gear, and head out for an exciting cross-country ski around Minneapolis, St. Paul, or other nearby locations this winter!

Visit the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory

One thing to do in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul in the wintertime is to visit the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. This popular attraction offers a tropical oasis inside with lush gardens and exotic animals, as well as outdoor activities like ice skating and a winter carnival. Visitors can also enjoy the nearby Como Town amusement park, which features rides and games for all ages. Additionally, the Twin Cities also have a variety of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, as well as ice fishing opportunities on nearby lakes and rivers.

St. Paul’s Winter Carnival Ice Palace

The Winter Carnival has been a St. Paul staple for ages, but they’re currently on their 37th Ice Palace – which, in my mind, is about the coolest thing you’ll find in Minnesota in the winter. It seems like a Disney movie comes to life, with the fantastic architecture and lighting that gives it an ethereal feel that is hard to come by anywhere else in the country. I highly recommend it to anyone in the area – not only will you get unbelievable photos, but you might be lucky enough to spot something interesting frozen in the ice, so be sure to look closely!

Go Skiing Along Local Trails

Cross-country skiers can enjoy routes in a variety of Twin Cities parks and gardens. Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis has 15.5 miles of trails ranging from easy to difficult, as well as a 1.25-mile illuminated route for skiing at night. The Columbia Golf Course, located nearby, also has several miles of paths. Twelve miles of beautiful trails with river vistas can be found in Fort Snelling State Park in St. Paul, and some of the nicest trails in the metro area can be found in Como Park. Both Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan, which is about 25 minutes away, and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, located close to the University of Minnesota, are lovely places to go skiing.

Ice Skating On Lake of the Isles

The Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis is transformed into a scenic outdoor ice rink surrounded by majestic pine trees and stunning homes during the winter, making for a truly magical experience. Ice skaters can enjoy a leisurely glide across the frozen lake, take a break for hot cocoa, or simply admire the breathtaking scenery. This unique winter activity combines the beauty of nature with the joy of outdoor recreation and is a must-do for anyone visiting the Twin Cities during the winter. There are also great hotels that I know of in Minneapolis that you can stay at to enjoy your winter escapade more.
